People's Democratic Republic of Laos

Champasak province in Laos
(KPL) 0.99 per cent of 110,324 families in Champassak province are reportedly living under poverty line, according to the Champassak Provincial Grassroots Building Office.

The reduction of poor families to current figure is attributed to the constant economic growth in the province, mainly in agriculture, according to Mr. Sonesay.
In agricultural sector, there is a significant increase in the plantation of rice, rubber, coffee, tea, cashew nuts, cassava and various cash crops, said Mr. Sonesay.
Health which is one of main indicators of poverty reduction has been improved and accessible to people in rural areas. Hundred and twenty-four development village clusters have been established across the province, according to Mr. Sonesay.
Mr. Sonesay said that the province would continue to reduce poverty in remote communities and establish more development village clusters and cultural villages and materialize the 7th National Socio-Economic Development Plan of the government to achieve poverty reduction by 2015.
